Impossible to master the English language

2023年10月8日

I must say it is virtually and technically impossible for almost everyone to master English overnight, even in a few months. Most likely for good. If you want to be really really at least proficient in the English language, then you've got to ensure that you're always ready to make a sacrifice of your ample or in most cases precious time for procrastination. For me, since the age of 21 I have been steadfastly and assiduously studying English; however, I don't think I have even quasi-mastered it yet, and I reckon I never will til I die. This is precisely because that the mastery of the English language, by definition, is an unfeasible dream for probably 99.9% of English learners unfortunately. What do I mean by that is this: learning English is a sort of life-time study, so you don't need to think about 'I need/want/wish to master it.' How simple is that? You don't even need to desire to become a native speaker of the English language, which is inherently beyond the bounds of possibility, or unattainable.

Learning process per se is meaningful for certain, and therefore, I'm always so stoked about knowing new words, for instance. To the best of my knowledge, English has an astronomical number of words to master. Even one of the most intelligent persons such as William Shakespeare was believed to have not mastered the English language. Eveyone makes mistakes, or at least slips, which is unequivocally natural. So, don't be a perfectionist, which conversely degrades yourself in stark contrast to becoming a mediocre English speaker. For myself, I don't really care about the level of sophistication unless it is perfectly understandable for general speakers of the English language.

To recapitulate what has been said today, simply speaking you cannot master the entirety of the English language. Hence, you do not have to ponder it, but both pronunciation and grammar can be doable to be mastered in a short perid of time, both of which are the cornerstone of the English language, or even any other foregin language out there. Please take it easy! Keep it up! Hang on in there, mate!

Thanks for flicking through my queer ditty as always. Chao!
