G'day mate. What are you up to? Today, what I wanna say is why learning English means learning pronunciation first. Without further ado, let's find out!
First and foremost, when it comes to learning any language, pronunciation is the linchpin of producing any sound, right? Yes, I learnt English grammar first if I remember correctly, say approximately 20 years ago. That was apparently such a typical mistake. Yes, I'm not saying grammar is not important to learn in the course of learning any language. However, learning grammar first makes you harder to get used to the practicality of languages like speaking and listening. Yes, knowing grammar is vital for reading articles and writing sentences, whereas it's still gonna be extremely difficult to listen to what someone says and talk to someone as well due to the paucity of proper pronunciation. So, learning and mastering pronunciation first gives you a chance of learning any language so much faster and easier than you might imagine.
Well, obviously mastering pronunciation is not easier said than done, right? You probably wanna escape from pronunciation, instead of practising it, you'd rather learn grammar or vocabulary first. Sorry but I must say, this is totally wrong. And, worst of all, you will spend so much time and energy, but you won't be able to listen to English and speak English fluently. In other words, you will have to go through a much harder learning scenario such as forgetting katakana pronunciation and installing proper pronunciation into your brain. Sounds awful, doesn't it? Yes, I fully understand how hard mastering pronunciation would be, however, no body can eschew learning pronunciation due to the fact that pronunciation is everything in terms of not just speaking but listening, reading and even writing as well.
Don't worry too much about pronunciation. As I'm saying all the time, English has only totally 44 patterns of sounds, comprising 20 vowels and 22 consonants. And, because I've been teaching pronunciation online for the last few years, I can confidently say to you, there shouldn't be too many mispronunciations, but a couple of, depending upon person. I'd describe like key vowels playing a role in the heart of English, and consonants as branches to not only make people understand but make yourself understood. You know what I mean?
Just to recap what I said here. Yes, you can kickstart learning any language from grammar or vocabulary, however, you will understand how hard it's gonna be if you escape from learning pronunciation first. But once you've got used to it, learning grammar and vocabulary are not so daunting as they require us to pronounce words correctly at any learning stage. Your pronunciation doesn't have to be perfect, but minimum 70% is a must for everyone. Anyone being in need of some help concerning pronunciation, please do not hesitate to contact me.
