Paraphrasing is the key to success in developing speaking

G'day mate, how are ya? Today I am going to talk about the importance of paraphrasing when it comes to speaking and writing. Please have a look at the above photo which I took yesterday on the way home. Even Cockatoos are practising Australia's social/physical distancing measure.

The term 'Social/Physical distancing' has become increasingly common in the wake of the outbreak of Covid-19. For instance, how could you paraphrase this term without using this terminology? This is the way you should be doing when you are learning English. Of course, you can consult your own English-English dictionary, but please try to explain the term using your own words.

Let me demonstrate it. So, please have a look at the above photo. They are trying to keep a certain distance in order not to spread their viruses, droplets, or even rumours. It's a kinda rule that people in Australia should obey to flatten the curve towards the end of this year. Did you get it?

So, there are hosts of different explanations you can think of, but you should try to explain it as easy and concise as you possibly can. For me, I usually try to minimise the use of any esoteric words even if the word I have to paraphrase is so abstract or complicated. It is nonsense for us to use such words to paraphrase as not many people can understand it properly. Self-satisfaction is the enemy of effective communication!!

Everyday, please try to practise paraphrasing at home. This is really a good training for those struggling to improve spoken skills as well as written skills.

Should you need any further help, please don't hesitate to contact me by email or leaving comments on this website.
