G'day, what are you up to, mate? Today, what I wanna touch on is the reason why the simpler the better for sure when it comes to improving your English proficiency. Let's get this straight, shall we?
As you know, English is quite a logical language compared to other counterparts. Yes indeed any existing language does have their own grammar rules to make it understandable for normal person. Amongst other things, English is one of the simplest but the most systematic languages in terms of grammar rules on earth. So, the more complex you try to say in English, the harder people can understand you. Of course, it should be no problem at all unless you do not have any grammatical mistake or do fit totally appropriately. But nonetheless, saying something in complicated words, expressions or even gibberish-like slangs make people extremely annoyed. Like, you are having a chat or discussion with some colleagues or friends, and one of them is using highly colourful or complicated jargons or technical terms all the time, then you'd definitely feel it's really irritating, right?
When I meet people, especially those who are new to me, I always try not to use any difficult words including jargons, but instead try to neutralise English sentences or the content what I'm talking about as simple as I possibly can. In this respect, Eiken 4th or 3rd grade level's English sentences are gonna be extremely useful. Please check my YouTube videos out. Saying a simple sentence doesn't mean it seems a bit childish. Hell no. Saying a complicated sentence with exceedingly inappropriate jargon or words does, in contrast, mean it's really shameful. It is absolutely not cool, is it?
Ok, in what way or under what circumstance could we use jargons or more abstract words, then? Well, strictly speaking, these sorts of words should normally be used in written work and formal situations. Even in formal situations, personally I do not use any technical term or too abstract words unless they fit appropriately or I'm required to use.
What kinds of sentences or words should we use in normal conversation? I'd say, SVO. That's it. I reckon people having the ability to say much simpler, clearer, sharper and more punchy sentences rather than too complicated and abstract ones are more quick-witted people. And also, if you are like this person, then it makes your life so much easier. You can, of course, get the most out of your vocabulary knowledge whereby you read books, write academic essays, and research something in English. Ultimately, you've got to be easily and effortlessly understood by people, which is the most important thing to keep in mind.
