G'day, how're ya going mate? Today, I wanna hear and know "what's your purpose of learning English?" This question is a critical one, but at the same time a bit of trivial one as well. Undoubtedly, different people have different objectives. Without further ado, let's dig into it.
First and foremost, learning a foreign language requires you to make an effort, endure, and be consistent with your initial objective. Otherwise, you'd probably give up before a certain level of the language is reached. So, everyone should make sure that they embrace an indefatigable spirit. You know what I mean? Yes, I do understand some of you guys are just aiming for gaining a required score of an English examination for the sake of getting an entrance permission from a prestigious university or something. Even so, you should think profoundly about your ultimate objective of why you want to learn English. Personally, I like "be consistent with something", which leads to everything. Sorry it's too broad but I just wanted everyone to have this spirit.
It doesn't matter what kind of purpose you have when it comes to learning English. But hopefully this should be consistent throughout your learning journey. For myself, the ultimate object of learning English is "Communication". That's all. No other things I can come up with. Yes indeed I used to study English for the sake of acquiring a high score in English examinations. I don't regret but my orientation towards learning English has progressively changed, which is one of the biggest breakthroughs in my entire life. To be honest with you, I don't like those who regard English as just a communication tool. Why? Because, English has a longstanding story and culture, and so it's certainly not easy for non-native speakers to understand them fully. Instead of learning these things, they are learning English just for the sake of a tool. It's difficult to explain it to you guys. I feel like the word "tool" should be removed. So, instead of saying "English is just a communication tool", I'd specifically say "My purpose of learning English is for 'communication'. " It's just a bit of subtle difference, but personally it's a huge difference.
Anyway, having your own ultimate objective of learning English has an immense effect on your future. If you haven't got one, then please try to think about this seriously. This is a very important element for any English learner from beginning to end.
