How do I read aloud and analyse what I've done?

2021年12月14日

G'day mate, how's it going? Today, I am going to be touching upon how I read aloud and analyse what I've done. Without further ado, let's dig into it.

First of all, it is prerequisite for everyone who's learning English to master at least 80% accuracy of English pronunciation and grammar rules prior to kickstarting reading some articles aloud. Without having the ability to pronounce the 44 sounds of phonemic symbols clearly, it's going to be much harder to do read them aloud. No one wants to get accustomed to incorrect pronunciations that will potentially lead to a disastrous consequence for boosting your English proficiency. So, let's be aware of the fact that the clarity of pronunciation has an enormous effect on your potentiality. Having mastered a certain level of pronunciation and grammar, you want to maximise the possibility of boosting your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, don't you?

When it comes to the way in which read aloud practice being done, well, you want to try to find lots of tricky sentences that contain your weak sounds and elements of connected speech. This is because that although the easier the article is, the better you'll be able to read aloud. But, this is going to be your training, so do try to pick up harder ones that you reckon you'll probably make mistakes or mispronounce while reading aloud. Yep, so do try to find as many an article as possible in order to make sure that you won't complete within an hour. Each day I highly recommend doing practising read aloud for at least an hour or two. And of course you should record yourself, simultaneously prepare Chrome Browser for checking your pronunciation. That's what you should be doing.

Then, how about self-analysis? This basically consists of three parts. First, check your voice after recording yourself via a MP3 player or something. What needs to be checked is this: 1. Speed - Shouldn't be too slow, nor should it be too fast; 2. Check whether you did necessary pauses, and whether you didn't unnecessary pauses; 3. Did you do chunk reading? These are the minimum requirements for your self-analysis. But, ideally you could calculate your average speed, investigate the fluctuation of your voice wave, both of which have an immense effect on your oral fluency. This is a bit of the next level, but even for beginners this sort of self-analysis or appraisal is critically important. So, please do make sure you do them, alright?
