How I do self-talk at home

2020年4月11日

G'day, how're you going? Today, I am going to talk about more details of the way in which I do self-talk at home. Some English learners are struggling to develop or improve their conversation skills. Although I am not in a position to audaciously teach this sorta thing, but I will try my best. By the way, self-talk can also call as "Internal monologue".

So, the best way you can consider is to start saying Subject and Verb, whatever you come up with. And then, you can add whatever you are imaging right now. First of all, if you cannot say S+V, it's going to be very hard to elaborate further using object. That's why you just should say S+V, and then you can expand your sentence into both meaningful or nonsense contents whatsoever.

It doesn't really matter whatever you say as self-talk won't affect anything at all, just in your mind. Nobody's virtually listening to your presentation anyway. You can relax and boast about your success stories or something. Even if you make grammatical mistakes, you can correct yourself whenever it's necessary.

To do your self-talk well, it's important for you to record yourself as well, because since no one is listening to and checking your voice, self-appraisal is a must-do list for your English learning. For instance, you can check grammar, sentence structure, logic, oral fluency, pronunciation as well as appropriate collocation/word choice. So many categories need to be evaluated. What you could do is to use 'Google Chrome Browser' to check whether you're enunciating crystal clearly or not. If you are good, the computer will definitely recognise you. It's very interesting, so please give it a go!

Finally, regular reading is also a must-do list for your English learning. If you don't read any English articles, it's extremely difficult to improve your speaking skills. For me, I usually read online and paper-based English articles or books at least 10,000 words every morning. In doing so, I've got used to so many English vocabularies. Normally, I rarely use an English dictionary for my learning. Only when I need to check the correct pronunciation do I consult it for ensuring I correctly enunciate the words I don't know.

That's all for today.

Have a good one!!
