G'day mate, how's it going? Today, I'm going to be talking about how to speak English confidently. Simply put, do speak without thinking anything at all. But how? Let's get straight into it.
First and foremost, you need to have at least the foundation of the English language. Without this, there's no way to develop your speaking proficiency. Pronunciation is the linchpin of how you convey your feeling to others in a verbal way. Grammar is critical for formulating sentences logically, without which no one can understand you properly and instantly without connecting the dots. And, vocabulary plays a pivotal role in specifying things you want to say. If you've got three basic elements, then technically speaking you could speak English confidently.
Everyone thinks practice makes perfect. Yes, without doubt, that's true. But, the problem is the way in which you carry out practising on a daily basis, right? The best way of practising English is do speak without thinking. "Without thinking" means that you need to be able to speak English without stopping due to, for instance, the lack of grammar knowledge, basic vocabulary as well as pronunciation. And, not just knowing grammar rules, vocabulary and phonemic symbols are not good enough, because this doesn't mean you confidently utilise them in a timely manner. Instantaneousness is of paramount importance when it comes to speaking English without thinking.
You can, of course, hesitate and pause when you're stuck in thinking about what to talk. This happens to everyone including native speakers. There's no doubt. But, language-related hesitation and pause are problematic. To minimise these things, just practising speaking is not good enough. What you should do, then, is to self-analyse your performance every day. And, you sort of list up things have to be improved in order to speak confidently. For instance, if your lack of confidence emanates from slips of grammar, mispronunciation, or vocabulary, then you should try to improve them on a daily basis. There's no panacea for improving them over night, unfortunately. The continuation of both practising and self-analysing is the only method to be able to speak English confidently in the end. Too simple, but not many learners habitually do that.
Grammatical structures, vocabulary and pronunciation that you can't start saying within 3 seconds means that you won't be able to speak naturally. And therefore, it's better not to use them in a real conversation. But, you should use them and practise when you're talking to yourself. Starting saying within 3 seconds is a kind of rule if you want to be really confident in speaking English naturally. Imagine, someone is in front of you, and you said something to this guy, and then if this guy starts answering your question after 3 seconds or later, you might feel something. Weird, right? Probably, this guy isn't confident in English, or something else. But anyways, not normal, is it? So, the speed and timing play a significant role in conversation.
To recap, to be able to speak English confidently, you should be able to start speaking within 3 seconds without thinking too much about grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. To this end, you need to have the foundation of the English language in the first place. But for this, you wouldn't be able to speak confidently. And be sure you practise and self-analyse your daily performance, which is the only way to boost your confidence level.
