Try to be fully conscious of your own mispronunciation

2022年2月19日

G'day mate. How have you been? Again I've been a little bit lazy about writing my English blog due to the lack of topics?! or just laziness?! or something else?! Anyway, I should admit all of them. By the way, have you ever thought about your mispronunciation when you are speaking? This would be a good start for those who are struggling to communicate with people around you. Try to be fully conscious of your own mispronunciation. How? Let's find out.

First and foremost, we've got to conceptually understand how many sounds both vowels and consonants IPA has. This learning process is indispensable for all of us who are not born and raised in an English speaking country. Learning and getting used to all sounds just from listening is too hard. And, in most cases, we would get used to common misperceptions against proper English pronunciation. Yes, I know the vast majority of native speakers being born and raised in an English speaking country tend not to learn pronunciation from phonemic symbols, and even would never seen such things in their entire lives unless learning linguistic subjects. However, we as a non-native speaker would find it difficult to learn pronunciation naturally as our first language somehow interferes in terms of the use of mouth and our entrenched first language sounds, etc.

Next up, we've got to understand that English is simply not our language, and so we have to tweak something and adjusting something, which are essential skills in order to master a second language. Common mispronunciation usually stems from some incompatibilities between our one-sided belief and actual sounds. We can't deny the fact that none of the existing languages out there is completely identical to our first language in terms of not just pronunciation but grammar and vocabulary as well. Unless being born and raised in an English speaking country, it's almost impossible to acquire impeccable native sounds without approaching systematic learning styles such as IPA phonemic symbols. Mimicking isn't always effective when it comes to learning a foreign language. Even monkeys would sometimes struggle to emulate some complicated things. But, once humans have trained them how to do so whereby using some specific tools or showing specific things every day, they'd be able to copy them successfully. We humans also have to get trained properly like monkeys.

Ultimately speaking, learning IPA 44 sounds of English pronunciation from scratch and self-analysing your performance every day would only lead us to master pronunciation. Although it might take longer to master depending on a person, it'd be so much faster, smoother and even the most hassle-free in the end. Since the advent of the Internet, our learning style has dramatically changed. We can download almost all things we need to learn English by just clicking online, or googling. However, thanks to the rapid development of technologies and being inundated with a plethora of information on the internet, we would find it difficult to handle today's technology wisely. To be honest, we don't need to be confused, instead we should just type "IPA 44 sounds of English pronunciation, Pdf". And, you search "Chrome Browser" for self-analysing your pronunciation. That's all you need to do. Quite simple and straightforward, isn't it?

In doing so, I'm sure we all would be able to be fully conscious of mispronunciation. But of course, if you need professional assistance, then I could be one of the tutors who makes your life so much easier when it comes to rectifying English pronunciation. I'm not perfect, nor am I a native speaker. Nonetheless, I'm pretty confident that I know "how to fix" so much better than normal native speakers. Please contact me if you need some help.
